Hypnotherapy has many applications in nursing. In hospitals, clinics and GP practices, nurses often have the longest ongoing contact with patients and can apply their hypnotherapy skills to enhance their communications with patients to:
o help patients cope with treatments and procedures, including preparation and aftercare
o help patients cope with the stresses involved in a variety of healthcare settings
o help patients cope while nurses are administering treatment procedures
o provide relevant information and health education
o support patients and others while waiting for tests, treatments or results
Their role gives them the opportunity to provide support and reassurance to patients throughout their time in care.
Nurses can also use hypnotherapy to assist themselves to maximise their personal resources in their work.
